What Is the Master Mind Scholarship?
The Master Mind Scholarship is a competitive international scholarship funded by the Flemish Ministry of Education and Training. It supports excellent international students who wish to pursue a full-time Master’s degree in Flanders, including at KU Leuven.
What the scholarship provides:
- €10,000 per academic year as a living allowance
- Full tuition fee waiver (only a small administrative fee is paid by the student)
- Funding for one year (60 ECTS) or two years (120 ECTS), depending on the Master’s programme
Who Can Apply?
Eligibility Criteria
You must:
- Be an international student (all nationalities are eligible except Russian citizens)
- Have obtained your previous degree outside Flanders (Belgium)
- Apply for an eligible, full-time, on-campus Master’s programme at KU Leuven
- Have an excellent academic record
- Meet English language proficiency requirements
English Language Requirements
You must provide one of the following:
- TOEFL iBT: minimum score of 94
- IELTS Academic: minimum overall band score of 7.0
- Cambridge CPE: level C2
Who Is Not Eligible
You are not eligible if:
- You are currently enrolled at a Flemish higher education institution (except in a preparatory programme leading to a Master’s in September 2026)
- You already receive another Flemish government scholarship or an Erasmus Mundus scholarship
Step-by-Step Application Process
Step 1: Apply for a Master’s Programme at KU Leuven
- Choose an eligible Master’s programme at KU Leuven.
- Submit your Master’s application through KU Leuven’s application system before the deadline.
- Upload the KU Leuven Scholarships and Master Mind Candidacy Form as an annex in your application file.
Submitting this form is mandatory to be considered for the Master Mind Scholarship.
Register Your Master Mind Scholarship Candidacy
- Complete the separate online scholarship registration.
- Ensure this registration is completed before the same application deadline.
Both the Master’s application and the scholarship registration must be completed on time.
Selection Process
Stage 1: KU Leuven Nomination
- After the deadline, KU Leuven reviews all eligible applications.
- Each faculty may nominate top candidates.
- Up to 20 candidates are nominated by KU Leuven.
- Nomination results are communicated in early March 2026.
At this stage, shortlisted candidates must submit a one-minute motivational video.
Stage 2: KU Leuven Preselection
- A central selection committee at KU Leuven reviews nominated candidates.
- Preselected candidates are invited to complete the official Flemish government Master Mind application form.
- Only preselected candidates move forward to the final competition stage
Stage 3: Final Selection by the Flemish Government
- The Flemish government evaluates all nominated candidates from universities across Flanders.
- Approximately 30 Master Mind Scholarships are awarded in total.
- Final results are announced in late May or early June 2026.
Important Dates (2026–2027)
- Application opens: October 2025
- Application deadline: 15 January 2026 (23:59 CET)
- KU Leuven nomination results: by 10 March 2026
- Motivational video submission deadline: mid-March 2026
- Preselection results: by mid-April 2026
- Final results: late May or early June 2026

Applications are evaluated based on:
- Academic excellence and GPA
- Quality of previous education
- Academic awards and distinctions
- Motivation and leadership potential
- Relevance of background to the chosen Master’s programme
